Cyclists belong to the group of so-called "vulnerable road users". This makes it all the more important to maintain the minimum distance when overtaking, which is also regulated in the StVO. In urban areas, this is 1.5 m, while outside urban areas it is 2 m. In our picture, which shows the two road users on an inner-city country road, it is easy to see that the car driver is not allowed to overtake the cyclist here. Failure to maintain the prescribed side distance can lead to serious traffic accidents.
